[Mother Therapy] Don't take chances for trials and errors away from children.

When parents see children go in the wrong direction from parents' point of view, they naturally suggest the right way and even push children into the direction parents think is right. Of course, parents have more experiences and they want to pass on their knowledge and wisdom to children. They hope that children will achieve what they aim for without many trials and errors.

However, it is only parents' wish. They are mistaken in thinking that they can guide children to take a shortcut and go easily without difficulties, but children cannot succeed only by doing as they are told by parents. Children must go their own way experiencing trials and errors of their own and building their own knowledge and experience to succeed in a true sense. When they are used to doing as they are told by parents, they cannot learn how to overcome difficulties and find their own way to what they want. Then, they end up wandering and giving up. Parents' good intentions can result in ruining children's life in the end.

Children learn through trials and errors without taking responsibilities in the phase of formation of self-identity under the protection of parents. They form their own thought standards through trials and errors. When they become adults and pursue self-actualization, they must take responsibilities for their actions. They can make trials and errors as teenagers or adults, but teenagers are protected by parents even when they make mistakes, and they are given many other chances over and over again until they become adults.

Parents should provide a safe environment where teenagers can learn through trials and errors and form healthy thought standards instead of pushing them to take a shortcut or only a safe road. Then, they will be able to make right judgments and taking right actions when they become adults. Parents directing children for every step they take is like taking their right for trials and errors away and their right to prepare themselves for future success and happiness.
