According
to a news article of Daily Mail on November 23rd in 2020, Peirson Tone who
lives in Destutes County in Oregon in USA, was treated for his depression and
got counseling for marital issues from Dr. Ronald Rosen, who was their family
doctor for him, his wife, and their two children. Later,
Tone's wife told him that she had been in an inappropriate relationship with
Rosen for some extended time, and then, the couple got a divorce. Tone filed a
lawsuit against Rosen for destroying his marriage and family.
This article clearly shows how detrimental consequences psychological disorders, relationship addiction, and post traumatic stress can bring about. Most of all, what can we do when the doctor who is supposed to treat psychological disorders and counsel the patients is in relationship addiction? Lawsuits, punishment, and denunciation are necessary but not sufficient to adequately address the issue of infidelity and the sad situations caused by it. We need to understand underlying mechanisms and fundemenatal structures of infidelity to treat people who are involved in such predicaments and prevent the recurrence of the misfortune.
In
the counseling sessions, the doctor may empathize with the patient and the
doctor and the patient may easily begin to establish a rapport. This may again
easily develop into relationship addiction in both parties. Neither the doctors
nor the patiens are aware of the danger of relationship addiction between the
doctor and the patient. It is a pity that many doctors and counselors
themselves have diverse psychological disorders including relationship
addiction, but no one knows about the dire consequences they may bring about.
Counseling sessions with the doctors who have psychological disorders may seem
to provide the patient with compassion, encouragement, hope, and confidence,
but actually only aggravate the patient's conditions.
In the case reported in this article, the doctor and the patient's wife are in relationship addiction, the patient is in depression and develops post traumatic stress due to wife infidelity. The doctor's wife must have developed post traumatic stress due to husband infidelity, and children in both families have to suffer from pain and distress caused by parents' problems and the breakage of family. A case of infidelity has caused the misfortune of so many people regardless of the issue of who is right and who is wrong.
All the people involved in this case are considered to need psychological treatment. Unfortunately, the conventional fields of psychology and medicine do not provide adequate treatment methods for such cases. Korea Institute of Psycho-education provides treatment for people who are in relationship addiction and spouses victimized by spouse infidelity in English, Japanese, and Korean. Please, keep you hope for regaining happiness again for yourself and your family by applying adequate treatment methods.
